Temple in the Sea

Trinidad Temples

Temple in the Sea

Another great temple to visit is The Hindu Temple in the Sea is located at Waterloo in Carapichaima (Central Trinidad).  Once time permits you can visit both Dattatreya Mandir (85 Ft Hanuman Murti) and Temple in the Sea on the same day.

Interesting Facts

  • This temple was built in 1947 by Siewdass Sadhu (an indentured labourer) but destroyed 5 years later by the government of that time because it was built in State-owned Caroni land

  • Not to be discouraged by this, he then attempted to rebuild the temple, but this time in the sea

  • It took 25 years to complete

  • In 1994 the government helped with the finishing touches to commemorate Indian Arrival 150th anniversary.  A pier was added to the temple to make it easily accessible.

Inside the temple is truly amazing with the absolutely astounding murtis of Hindu Gods.
