San Fernando Hill

Trinidad Parks

A great site to have a picnic - the San Fernando Hill (officially known as Naparima Hill).  It is a 192-m hill which lies at the center of the city of San Fernando.  The size of the hill was reduced by one third due to illegal quarrying.

Depends on which side of the hill you stand, you can see the Trinidad and Tobago Water Taxis.

The view is fantastic!

Look a "long time" public pay phone!  (Don't think the younger folks will know about these "ancient" phones though.... lol)

The children's play park was opened December 1988,I remember performing with my primary school choir for the opening ceremony.  This play park was named after the late Haji Shafik Rahaman and is maintained by the Rahamut Group of Companies.

My daughter enjoying herself in the playpark :)........

Palmiste Park

Trinidad Parks

Bored at home on a Sunday evening and don't know where to go?  Why not Palmiste Park located just on the outskirts of San Fernando.  Ever thought about jogging with your little one?  You can go for a stroll, take your kids tricycle with them or even camp out on a long weekend.  It's the perfect place for small functions (birthday parties), family picnis or doing photo-shoots.  Night-time is alive and buzzing with activities as food vendors come out to sell.

Such a beautiful site, however some people who use the park abuse the surroundings.  Motorists drive through the park leaving unsightly tyre marks on the green grass.  Some people litter the area with their garbage and the park does not have a restroom.

The Palmiste Park is used to host Ramleela celebration, Phagwa and a Christmas Village.

Religious sites - Dattatreya Temple and 85 ft Hanuman Murti in Carapichaima

Trinidad Temples

Another amazing site - The 85 ft Hanuman Murti.  The Dattatreya Temple is located at Orange Field Road, Carapichaima.  It is said to be the largest murti outside of India.

The two gray elephants provide devotees (or visitors) to wash their feet before entering the main mandir.

The architectural style and color scheme are the same as the temple in India.

The sculptures and murals are really beautiful.

The enchanting 85 ft Lord Hanuman Murti in all its glory.

A helicopter carrying sacred waters of Ganga and Aripo Hovered above the Hanuman murti and discharged a huge amount of water for the consecration ceremony.

Interesting Facts

  • Lord Hanuman is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva

  • Hanuman is known as the best warrior among the Hindu gods since he aided Lord Rama in his expedition against evil forces.

  • Hanuman is worshiped as a symbol of physical strength, perseverance and devotion

  • People worship Hanuman to attain strength, wisdom, knowledge and valor, his devotees remains happy and contented always.

Another beautiful site in Central Trinidad to visit with my daughter.

Beach Time!

Trinidad Beach

Clifton Hill Beach

The kids will be home for two months and finding things to do can be difficult with a hectic work-life schedule, but taking time out to visit the beach can be relaxing.  I love taking my daughter to the Clifton Hill beach, the waves are normally calm and the water very inviting.

The Clifton Hill Beach Resort located in Point Fortin opened their doors to visitors in April 2014.  This resort started through an initiative of Atlantic LNG but was handed over to the Point Fortin Borough in 2012.

This new facility includes changing rooms, restaurant, bar, pavilion, stage, and conference room.

The swimming pool is scheduled to open on 6th July 2015.  I'm sure the kids will love the pool.

You can find more information about Clifton Hill Beach Resort on their Facebook page

Harry's Water Park and Nature Trail

Nature Resort

Harry's Water Park and Nature Trail

Another great place to take your family, Harry's Water Park located at Rio Claro.  Some fun activities offered for the various age groups include paddle and peddle boats, kayaking, fishing, wild life, nature trail, swimming pools complete with water slide, sheds for liming and outdoor cooking, kids play park, a well-stocked bar and food court, guest rooms, log cabins, and zip lining.

Kids can see different species of animals such as donkey, deer, agouti, birds, monkeys and snakes when they take a stroll down the nature tail.  There is a food court where guests can dine in or take away as well as a Convention Centre that can be rented for any event.

I've got to admit, it looks like a lot of fun fun fun......  I haven't gone to Harry's Water Park yet, but will surely take my daughter there soon.

La Vega Estate

Nature Resort

La Vega Estate

There are many interesting, exciting and educational places to visit with friends and family in Trinidad.  One of these locations is the La Vega Estate, a 250 acre hideaway with outdoor activities for the entire family.  La Vega was originally a cocoa estate,  but is now home to a garden center, plant nursery, nature and recreational park.

Some of their activities include fishing, pedal boating and nature trails.

I've visited the La Vega Estate recently with my work family and three year old daughter.  The facilities are maintained and clean, with friendly staff.  At the entrance to the pool area, there is a stall that offers floatation devices and snacks for sale.  Everyone loved the pool.

A short distance away is the Divine Mercy Shrine where visitors are invited to use for prayer or devotion.  Truly a beautiful sight.

A very nice destination for a relaxing day out with the family.
