Pointe-a-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust

Trinidad Wetland

Pointe-a-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust

The Pointe-a-Pierre Wild Fowl Trust believes that environmental education should not only be taught in classrooms, but it could be taken outdoors.  Its the ideal destination for families, bird watchers, nature lovers and Eco-adventurers.

The Trust is located on the compound of PETROTRIN (a major petrochemical and oil refinery in South Trinidad).  There are guided tours available; you are taken out in small boats on the two ponds where you can view the birds.

A peacock in all his glory.

My daughter loves birds, so I'm sure she'll enjoy going to the Trust.  She may want to bring the birds home though.

Interesting Facts

  • Once when the term "fowl" was used to describe all birds, "Wildfowl" actually means "Wild birds".  Presently the term is used to describe one family of birds - ducks, geese and swans (there are 147 species).

  • Injured birds are brought to the Trust, treated and released after becoming healthy and active.

  • Numerous species of birds are bred at the Trust.
